Q: I work for myself. From whom do I request a letter of reference?
A:
Perhaps a letter from a current client or vendor


Q: I was a stay-at-home parent. Who do I use as a reference?
A:
Volunteer work or last supervisor, if possible.


Q: What is a cover letter?
A:
This is a letter that introduces yourself, the position you are applying for, and your goals.


Q: To whom should I address my cover letter?
A: Human Resource Services or To whom it may concern.


Q: I did not receive a copy of my Student Teaching evaluations from my Master Teacher.
A:
Discuss the need for an evaluation with your university. If not able to provide, ask your master teacher for a letter of recommendation.


Q: I was in school in 2014.  Do I need to put that down?
A:
Yes, if it falls within the last 10 years, please list in the unemployment section 


Q: Can I speak with the person in charge of hiring?
A:
Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to answer individual inquiries.


Q: What is my status?
A:
You may check your status at anytime by visiting our website. Your next steps will depend on your status.


Q: When can I interview?
A:
You will be contacted by HRS for an interview as applications are reviewed and vacancies occur.


Q: Why were my friend(s) contacted for an interview and I was not?
A:
Each application is reviewed on an individual basis.


Q: How many openings do you have and where?
A:
We do not provide specific information on openings and locations. Applicants who are recommended for candidate status are referred to schools for site interviews.


Q: What is/how long is the review process?
A:
We don’t have a deadline and each step of the process is based on an individual basis. We appreciate your patience.


Q: Can we call the school site?
A:
Please note that Principals and school staff are not authorized to offer employment. Only HRS offers employment. Applicants who are recommended for candidate status are referred to schools for site interviews.


Q: I forgot my user id & password.
A: Request your user id/password information.


Q: Why did I receive a regret letter when I am highly qualified?
A:
Long Beach USD receives many applications, and numerous factors are considered in screening on an individual basis. Please send your questions/concerns in writing to the Attention of Human Resource Services to 1515 Hughes Way, Long Beach, CA 90810.


Q: What do I do if a teacher (or principal) is requesting me at their site?
A:

Q: Can I get a Letter of Reference from someone besides my supervisor? I do not want them to know that I am seeking employment elsewhere.
A:

Q: The name of my University is not listed on the drop down menu, and it will not allow me to move to the next section. What should I do?

Q: Can I get a copy of a document sent in my document packet?
A:
Materials received as part of the document packet cannot be returned or copied.


Q: Can I stay on the list for next year?
A:
Our staffing season is from September through August. If you are not a candidate, you may reapply after September 1 of the current school year for the following school year.


Q: How long will you keep my application and documents?
A:
Complete applicants will stay current for one year from submission


Q: If I’m applying for a Substitute Teaching position, do I need a CBEST?
A:
Currently, the requirement is only for a Bachelor’s Degree. Please visit the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing Substitute Permit Requirements for additional information
